Space of Gentle Reflections

Are you living from truth or survival?

Have you ever sat within your heart and taken time to consider what parts of you are authentic and true… and what parts of you have developed through survival?

What parts of you show up with a mask and what parts long to be expressed?

What did your upbringing, experiences and story of life tell you who you had to be?

How did you learn to adapt and evolve parts of yourself to survive in this world and the environments you have come to know?

There are many ways we may learn to adapt and it is often to morph into the perfect shape of the world around us.

But something happens when we bend ourselves out of our original shape for too long.

The true parts of us are pushed down to make more space, the weight of fitting into who we feel we should be begins to crumble our spirit and the energy from within that is intended to fuel us, continues to be depleted as we work on keeping up the charade for our survival.

Most importantly though, do we actually recognise the weight of the mask? Or does it simply become who we believe ourselves to be?

Does it become an expected weight to carry day to day, without question or concern?

I wonder if ‘who we are’ is actually who we had to become to be safe and accepted.

So I wonder, who would you be if the cloak of protection was taken away?

It may be interesting to consider…

What version of you emerges when you feel completely safe?

What desires and dreams do you hold beneath the surface?

What boundaries, anger, grief or suppressed emotions long to be expressed?

Where would your joy lead you if led by your truth?

Who would you be right now, who would you have blossomed into, if you hadn’t learned you needed to be someone else to survive?

This reflection can be painful to hold and I invite tenderness with your heart. This reflection is not shared to aggravate old wounds but to invite curiosity.

Because it is important that we honour and hold respect to the parts of ourselves that very wisely adapted to survive.

Just as much as it is important that we consider what parts of us have been buried, that may want to emerge. What truth within our heart, is yearning to lead forward.

Our truth is always within us, waiting, patiently. We do not need to become someone new, the process is actually about peeling back the layers and coming home to ourselves, again and again.

So you may begin notice or reflect on, when you feel most like yourself, when you feel most at home, when you feel most authentic in your expression.

This simple noticing creates a path of wisdom, to discern what is true, what is not and what we actually want to hold and experience in this life.

The gatherings we hold together within Bohypnic, create ways to explore your inner world and to listen to this truth.

And with time, you may feel called to experiment with small acts of inner authenticity and to notice how your body responds. To explore the different parts of your truth and forms of self-expression.

And to start to meet your most organismic self.

A self that Carl Rogers (psychologist and one of the founders of humanistic psychology) during his time, viewed as our authentic core and real self.

“Powerful is our need to be known, really known by ourselves and others, even if only for a moment.” - Carl Rogers

As you sit with this today, I invite you to consider what is your survival and what is your truth.

For at some point, within this fleeting experience we call life, it may be a brave and bold story that you tell, about how the truth within your heart led your forward.

Because if there is such meaning to this life, I think it may be, to live it truthfully.
